Easy Step-by-Step Planting Guide
Sunflower seeds
Gardening trowel or small shovel
Watering can or hose
Sunny outdoor space
Compost or potting soil (optional)
Pick a sunny location! Sunflowers need 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Loosen the soil about 2 inches deep. Mix in compost if you want bigger blooms!
Dig small holes about 1 inch deep
Space seeds 6 inches apart
Cover with soil and gently pat down
Give them a good soaking after planting. Keep the soil moist—but not soggy—until they sprout (about 7–10 days).
As they grow, water them regularly and enjoy watching your sunflower reach for the sky!
The Sunshine Collective was founded in April 2024!
Sunflowers turn to follow the sun—a trait called heliotropism.
Sunflowers are for pollinators like bees and butterflies!
